IEC 61511

Functional safety training

IEC 61511 competence from the control room to the project office, tailored to your plant and procedures.

T9Functional Safety Awareness: Why the SIS MattersFor operators, maintenance teams, contractors and managers½–1 day

Understand what a safety instrumented system does and how it differs from the control system. Explore the IEC 61511 safety lifecycle and responsibilities in plain words, the risks of bypasses, overrides and unreviewed changes, and what every role must and must never do around a SIF.

T10IEC 61511 in Practice: from Hazard Analysis to the SRSFor engineers, process safety specialists and project teams3 days

Connect the safety lifecycle phases: hazard and risk analysis, allocation, SRS, design, validation and operation. Determine the target SIL using HAZOP and LOPA, calibrated against the corporate risk matrix. Write safe states, trip points, response times, bypass and reset rules, and proof test requirements. Workshop: develop a complete SRS for one SIF from a hazard scenario.

T11SIL Verification: Proving the Design Meets Its TargetFor SIS design engineers, EPCs and vendors2 days

Calculate PFD for typical architectures and examine the supporting data and assumptions. Check hardware fault tolerance, architectural constraints and systematic capability. Set the proof test interval and document what the result depends on. Workshop: verify one SIF and defend the result in an assessment.

T12Operating the SIS: Proof Testing, Bypass and Management of ChangeFor operations, maintenance and engineering teams2 days

Write and execute proof test procedures and optimise test intervals. Manage bypasses and the operational rules in the SRS. Track demands and failures, use the data to review design assumptions, and review SIS modifications under management of change.

T13Functional Safety Management: Running the FSM SystemFor managers, functional safety leads and project owners2 days

Develop the functional safety plan, lifecycle and validation plans, and roles across owner, contractor and vendors. Manage competence, verification activities and document control. Understand what functional safety assessors and auditors look for at each stage, and prepare your FSM system for assessment and FSMS certification.
